Project Synopsis: Challenge/Opportunity
BulkDelivery PRO™ (BDP) software simplifies online ordering, payments, scheduling, inventory, and order fulfillment of  bulk landscape material deliveries. Our solution addresses specific challenges that exist in the delivery of heavy or high-volume bulk materials that are loaded into a truck and then dumped out at a home, business or jobsite.  Providers for these types of deliveries have been around for a long time and many have been slow to modernize.  These landscape supply yards, nurseries, home improvement stores, landscapers or independent haulers often take orders only over the phone or in person and are used to managing the various details with pen & paper.

Because our target customers may fall under different categories of business types, we've decided that doing our own nationwide research will return the most accurate data to inform our sales and marketing decisions.  We've begun to scour Google Maps on a town-by-town basis using targeted keywords to uncover businesses and individual that would be good candidates for our software application.

We are looking for businesses that have invested in building out some sort of web site and understand the value of providing an online ordering solution.  We're also looking for customers that are independently owned and not "corporations" with multiple locations across various states.  Additionally, we want to gather data that helps us better understand how much demand there is for material deliveries, likely based on the number of businesses that a certain area supports and if this differs between regions in the US.  Identifying areas with higher demand will help us make decisions about where to focus sales and marketing efforts.

Lastly, we're also trying to identify what sorts of regional and national trade shows exist in this space.  We'd like to participate in these events in the coming year alongside other places that the more savvy or enterprising potential customers are gathering.
Project Synopsis: Activities/Actions Required
Time needs to be spent scouring and combing through different communities around the US, and then making phone calls.  We want to identify our best customer opportunities in various regions, find out who the decision-makers are, and then start to have conversations with those people.  Our experience thus far indicates that closing a sale and onboarding a new customer may take us several months, largely dependent on the availability of a key decision maker and where things fall in relation to the business season.  We want to start these initial conversations with as many business owners as soon as possible.
Project Synopsis: Expected Results
If we can build solid lists of potential landscape material businesses and contact information for each of the 50 US states, we'll call that a win. This process of gathering the data has (thus far) also returned a wealth of other market-specific information (website platform, online sales yes/no, stock materials, delivery only, sell other products, truck/fleet size, etc, etc) that will help steer the application development and refine our sales pitch(es).
