We are beginning to start work on replacing our legacy CyberBear portal for students and employees from our ERP vendor, Ellucian Banner. Our challenge will be to design and implement a new portal product from Ellucian that integrates our Banner Self Service functionality for things like student registration, pay your bill, accept financial aid, view grades, and other employee self service functionality. Other challenges include what features/functionality we should include for various personas/profiles, single sign-on, along with any needed customizations that need to call API's from other systems.
Pre-requisites include provisioning of cloud servers/resources from our portal vendor, Ellucian. An implementation/kickoff/training from Ellucian on what is involved in the implementation of a new product call the 'Ellucian Experience' portal. An inventory of features/functionality will have to be spec'd out to be included in the new portal. Single Sign on will have to be configured. Outreach to various departments and user groups will need to be conducted for a needs analysis of what features to include, and the 'look and feel' of how widgets are arraigned in the portal. Coordination of programmers will need to be managed in order to deal with any customizations, modification, or enhancements for API integrations or other links to outside systems. A successful first phase would include the planning, preparation, implementation, and initial prototyping of a working 'CyberBear 2.0' portal using the Ellucian Experience platform. Wireframes or layouts of all the needed features/functionality would be mocked up and ideally layed out in the new portal environment. The project team could then hand off the project to our internal project management team at the end of the semester, with the goal to launch the new portal after some extensive testing with the various administrative departments on campus in the summer through Fall. |
