Project Synopsis: Challenge/Opportunity
WE, The World is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to addressing global challenges, including poverty, inequality, and gender-based violence. Their commitment to sustainable development and social justice positions them well within the sector; however, they face a critical gap in effectively implementing youth skills, gender and climate justice, STEM education initiatives tailored to marginalized communities, particularly women. This gap restricts the organization's ability to fully leverage the potential of women as change agents in their communities, particularly in areas like climate resilience and economic development.
Project Synopsis: Activities/Actions Required
  1. The project will use a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods, including surveys, interviews, and focus groups to assess community needs and identify barriers to women's empowerment in STEM fields and address femicide and women's active and equal leadership roles in peace and security (WPS).
  2. Students will analyze existing programs and policies related to gender equality and education, legal frameworks of femicide, existing social protection measures, employing frameworks from institutional strengthening and policy advocacy.
  3. Deliverables will include a comprehensive needs assessment report, STEM curriculum prototypes, advocacy materials, and policy recommendations.
  4. Throughout the project, students will engage with stakeholders, including community members, local leaders, and educational institutions, to ensure the project's relevance and sustainability.
  5. Support for need assessment, project planning, management training for project staff
  6.  Networking and establishing strong connections with global donor agencies 
Project Synopsis: Expected Results
  • The expected outcomes of this project include the development of a tailored STEM education curriculum that addresses the specific needs of women in the target communities, advocacy tools that promote women's leadership in peace and security, and actionable policy recommendations aimed at enhancing social protection and reducing femicide/ GBV  and women's active and equal leadership roles in peace and security (WPS). 
  • Learning outcomes for students will include improved research, analysis, and stakeholder engagement skills, as well as a deeper understanding of the intersection of gender and development.
  • Target results will be measured using SMART goals, such as engaging with at least 100 community members, developing three curriculum prototypes, and producing two advocacy materials by the end of the project on high quality public education and health care, promoting gender equality and women empowerment at all levels.
