Project Title Bolivian Highlands Relief & Sustainability
Project Topics Corporate Social Responsibility Growth Strategy Legal, Regulatory, Compliance Research & Development
Skills & Expertise
Project Synopsis: Challenge/Opportunity
In partnership with the U.N.'s World Food Programme (WFP) and a religiously-based (Quaker) local non-profit in La Paz, Bolivia, we aim to:
(1) address emergency food needs for indigenous families arising from the failure of last year's potato crop in the highlands region (Altiplano, 14,000+'); and
(2) collaborate with a network of potato agronomy and climate change experts from U.S. and Bolivian universities in order to mitigate the ongoing drought/flood cycle in the region and to develop a longer term solutions for sustainable agriculture in the region
Project Synopsis: Activities/Actions Required
A  broad range of research (particularly involving research into potential 'capacity-building' partner organizations): partner outreach and development; translation and interpretation (Spanish and possibly also Quechua); sustainable agriculture best practices; climate change research; program development; marketing and development
Project Synopsis: Expected Results
Extend the existing program of formal cooperation with the World Food Programme into a more fully-staffed and funded multiyear program of both food assistance and expert collaboration. Because the Bolivian Altiplano is the world's highest area of year-round habitation, it is like "the canary in the coalmine" for experiencing deleterious effects of climate change for other marginally-situated populations around the world.
