Project Synopsis: Challenge/Opportunity
The 'Big lie' and 'Stop the Steal' movement of 2020 sowed seeds of doubt in the American public that continue to undermine the legitimacy of our elections. As a result, we've seen increasing threats against election officials, poll and ballot box vigilantes, an explosion of election denialism online, and continued efforts to restrict access to the polls. Between the renewed Trump candidacy and the introduction of generative AI, the 2024 election cycle is likely to continue to put the fate of free and fair elections at stake. So how might we reinstate broad public faith in our elections? How might we ensure the safety of voters and election officials? How might we curb and discredit the disinformation deluge from generative AI? How might we reimagine voting as we know it given our post-truth reality? We are looking for innovative solution to any one of these opportunity spaces within the broader macro-challenge of election integrity.
Project Synopsis: Activities/Actions Required
  • Deep primary and secondary research to refine the problem, identify barriers and constraints and uncover actionable insights that inspire a solution
  • Structured, ideation of solutions (ideally in collaboration with end users, impacted communities, issue area experts, and other stakeholders)
  • Strategic down-selection (feasibility, desirability, viability) and refinement of ideas
  • Iterative prototype testing with increasing levels of prototype fidelity
  • Developing a revenue model or plan for sustainability
  • Scoping and developing an MVP solution
  • Designing and launching a formal pilot to evaluate impact
Project Synopsis: Expected Results
A small scale pilot of the idea that can be in market in time to impact the 2024 election cycle. Ideally, if possible, the team or teams with the most promising ideas could join our Innovation Lab during the Summer 2024 as fellows to continue incubating and developing their ideas.
